Probable cause

The pilot's failure to maintain directional control during takeoff with a crosswind.

Investigator assessment

Analysis narrative

The pilot reported that, during takeoff with a strong right crosswind, the right wing “lifted sharply” and the left wing impacted the ground. The airplane continued off the left side of the runway and came to rest about 150 ft from the edge of the runway, which resulted in substantial damage to the wings and fuselage. The pilot reported that there were no preaccident mechanical failures or malfunctions with the airplane that would have precluded normal operation.
