The pilot's improper in-flight planning and decision to land on a short grass runway with a tail wind. A factor in this accident was the pilots failure to obtain and evaluate a weather briefing prior to the flight.

Analysis narrative
During a landing on a 1200 foot grass runway, with a tail wind of 12 to 25 knots, the pilot was unable to stop the airplane. The airplane overran the end of the runway, impacted a fence, then a tree and nosed over. There was no known weather brief prior to departure. The pilot did receive current winds, in flight, from a local airport control tower and elected to land down wind.
